"Honeywell is another foreign company that has shown willingness to participate in the future Innovation District in Kragujevac. It is very important that leading global companies in the field of information technology recognize the significance and potential of Serbia’s innovation infrastructure, Kragujevac's position as a sort of Silicon Valley of our country, the quality of our experts, and even now, several months before the first building of the Innovation District becomes operational, they wish to position themselves with their ideas for technological innovations, digitalization, and the development of new solutions. Our future technological cooperation through the Innovation District in Kragujevac aims to initiate potential innovations in areas such as process automation in construction and energy efficiency, the implementation of digital promotional activities to raise awareness and training programs for citizens and businesses, as well as knowledge transfer," said Jovanović, adding that the construction of the Innovation District in Kragujevac is part of the "Leap into the Future – Serbia 2027" Program, which is part of plans for further modernization, digitalization, and the development of innovation infrastructure in Serbia.
“Together with our platinum partner, Adriatec, we are pleased to announce our future cooperation with the esteemed University and the Innovation District of Kragujevac. This partnership represents a significant step towards fostering innovation and academic excellence. By integrating our industry expertise with the university's intellectual resources, we aim to drive research initiatives and develop cutting-edge solutions that will benefit our organizations and the broader community. Our efforts will be particularly focused on key megatrends such as automation, the future of aviation, and energy transition. Together, we will cultivate a robust ecosystem that empowers students and professionals, preparing them for the challenges of tomorrow’s technology landscape,” said Mihai Brana, Managing Director Honeywell Romania SRL and Southeast Europe Commercial Leader Honeywell Building Automation Fire and PAVA Solutions.
The signing was also attended by the Mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dašić, who welcomed Honeywell Romania SRL to Kragujevac, a city recognized as a center for innovation and technological development.
"Thanks to the State Data Center, we have been securely storing knowledge and data for four years, which are among the most valuable resources in technologically advanced societies. This success would not have been possible without the support and trust of numerous global and domestic companies. Now, with the Innovation District, we are taking the next step forward. In addition to the support from the Government of Serbia and state investments, Kragujevac, as a university center, owes much gratitude to the educational institutions that quickly adapted to modern technological challenges and significantly contributed to the success of the IT industry and the development of skilled professionals. These professionals are now working to make our environment smarter, safer, and more sustainable for the benefit of citizens," emphasized Mayor Dašić.
As a reminder, in the next three years, around 35,000 square meters of the Innovation District will be built in Kragujevac. The total area of land where the Innovation District will be located is 4.5 hectares, and its total capacity will be 85,000 square meters. The district will include separate spaces for IT (business incubators, startups, and an area for artificial intelligence applications, which will house a robotics development center), a smart city center for the development of smart energy systems, smart infrastructure networking, a center for promoting digitalization, an area for bioinformatics and bioengineering with research spaces and laboratories, as well as a dedicated center for information security. Additionally, the fifth Science and Technology Park in Serbia will be built within the district. The entire complex, one of the most valuable and significant state capital investments, will be an important stimulus for future investments, the opening of new jobs, and additional economic growth in Serbia.
